Sen. Kirk works to fix VA scandal
Sen. Mark Kirk is stepping up the effort to get veterans the health care they need in the wake of the recent VA scandal.
The senator is calling on acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson to declare a state of emergency, allowing vets to seek immediate private care instead of waiting at a VA facility.
Kirk was joined today by an army veteran who has been waiting over a year to see various specialists at Hines V-A hospital in the suburbs. He had a colonoscopy and was informed everything was fine, but two months later a private physician found 130 polyps.
