4 dead, 1 critical in single-car crash on Northwest Side

Four people were killed and one was critically injured after the car they were riding in crashed into a concrete wall.

The crash happened around 3 a.m on a service road behind a shopping center near the 2600 block of N. Narragansett on the city’s Northwest Side.

All five had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Chicago Fire Department.

Three males and a female were dead on impact and another female was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reports two of the deceased were in their 20’s, one was 19, and one was a teenager.

Police said at the scene the car came close to hitting about 100 propane tanks which could have blown up the entire building.

The road is popular for illegal drag-racing.

Police reviewed surveillance video and found that the driver was speeding but not drag-racing.

At 3am in the morning, there are many inferences that can be made, until the full story comes out…and none of the inferences are good!

Last year Salvatore Cavallaro Sr. was hit by a hit and run driver at the same location. I hope that the management of the Brickyard and Brick Town mall finally does something to stop or prevent people from speeding on this road and provide a safe walk way for people. Both accidents could have been prevented. Hope and pray that no one else gets hurt or killed before they take action.
