4 dead, 1 critical in single-car crash on Northwest Side
Four people were killed and one was critically injured after the car they were riding in crashed into a concrete wall.
The crash happened around 3 a.m on a service road behind a shopping center near the 2600 block of N. Narragansett on the city’s Northwest Side.
All five had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Chicago Fire Department.
Three males and a female were dead on impact and another female was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reports two of the deceased were in their 20′s, one was 19, and one was a teenager.
Police said at the scene the car came close to hitting about 100 propane tanks which could have blown up the entire building.
The road is popular for illegal drag-racing.
Police reviewed surveillance video and found that the driver was speeding but not drag-racing.
