The U.S. Capitol was evacuated for a brief time this afternoon.
Authorities cleared the building after a small plane entered restricted airspace over Washington, D.C. U.S. Capitol police ordered the evacuation when authorities were unable to make contact.
The aircraft safely left the restricted airspace.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident to find out why the pilot entered without authorization. The plane prompted authorities to call an “Aircon Red” alert, which happened once in 2011 and in 2009.
