Governor Quinn honors Illinois’ top spellers

Governor Pat Quinn honored Illinois’ two top spellers.

Alia Abiad is a Western Springs eighth grader who placed fifth in last month’s Scripps Spelling Bee competition in Washington, D.C.

Pranav Sivakumar, of Grayslake,  placed second overall in last year’s spelling bee.

Governor Quinn presented them with a special proclamation at the Thompson Center Friday and acknowledged their hard work to qualify for the national competition.
