Funeral services were held today at Salem Baptist Church of Chicago for slain Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep special education teacher Betty Howard.

Howard, 58, was chatting with co-workers at a South Side real estate office, where she worked a second job, when she was shot to death on May 29.

Police say a shootout outside the office between rival gang factions led to several bullets tearing through the office wall, one of which hit Howard in the head, killing her.

Two other people were wounded.

The shooters remain at large, although a $7,000 reward has been posted.

Rest in Peace Dr. Howard. God bless your family, friends, and students at this terribly difficult tragic time.
