Customs agents find condom-wrapped cocaine in women at Midway
After a trip to Jamaica, a pair of local women landed at Midway International Airport on Friday with about $36,000 worth of cocaine wrapped in condoms and stored in body cavities, authorities said.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection canine alerted to Denisha White when she landed at Midway after an AirTran Airways flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica, police said.
White, 24, was detained immediately and later admitted to carrying about 149 grams of cocaine in her vaginal area, police said. That’s worth about $18,625 on the street, officials estimated.
Customs agents also detained Taleishia Trisby, 25, and found about the same amount of cocaine in her anal area, prosecutors said. Trisby traveled to Chicago on the same flight as White, but police accounts didn’t make clear why customs agents decided to detain Trisby after the dog alerted to White.
White, of Chicago’s 5500 block of South Princeton Avenue, and Trisby, of the 800 block of Russell Road in DeKalb, were each arrested a little before 9 p.m. Friday at the airport. Each woman faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
White and Trisby appeared in bond court Saturday before Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil, who ordered that they be released and placed on electronic monitoring. They’ll be back in court June 24.
