Surveillance cameras captured the ordeal of a Canadian couple who found themselves trapped after lightning struck their truck.

Al and Betty Perry were on a rural road in central Alberta last weekend. Lighting hit, airbags deployed and the truck burst into flames.

The Perrys said they couldn’t see past the smoke to get out and the metal on the truck started melting, sealing their doors shut.

“I put my two feet up against the window trying to kick the window up,” Al Perry said. “I don’t know how many times I tried and tried and tried.”

A police officer happened to be driving by and helped the couple escape. The Perrys celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary days later.
