Video of an alleged bullying incident has parents alarmed in southwest suburban Joliet.

The mother of a 13-year old boy says her school was slow to react after her son became the victim of bullying.

School officials deny it, but Sandy Ayala says there has been a pattern of bullying at Gompers Middle School in Joliet.

She says teachers and administrators failed to protect her son from what she describes as escalating aggression culminating in a brutal beating Monday that was videotaped and and later posted to social media.

The video shows 13-year old Anthony Ayala, in the black shirt, trying to fend off four young attackers Monday afternoon, shortly after school.

Sandy Ayala says she was horrified when her son staggered home, bleeding from his nose, ears and mouth.

She rushed him to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was treated for cuts, bruises and a concussion.

The 13-year old said he briefly lost consciousness during the fight.

A spokesperson for School District 86 say officials responded immediately to Monday’s beating, calling the Joliet Police Department and suspending three students.

But Sandy Ayala says teachers and administrators long ignored the problem and that they failed to follow their own guidelines on bullying.

Sad to see this keep happening, hopefully more than a suspension will be dished out as a consequence to these attackers. A slap on the wrist won't fix anything here.

I think that 'bullying' is a learned behavior – – either at home, internet – – somewhere…Too bad these young would-be gangsters aren't doing volunteer work in their overflowing amount of spare time. The parents should be ashamed, and pay restitution to the boy and his family. And lock up these little gangsters for a couple of months in juvenile detention…see how tough they are then!

this is horrible, should not happen to anyone's child. the parents of the bully should be charged as well. Had their sons vandalized a house, they'd have to pay. Why not here too?

  • Seriously

The progressive liberals have made it so children cannot be discipline. Parents and teachers fear arrest should they even try to discipline children.
