City council passes ride share ordinance
Despite objections from cab drivers and owners, Chicago’s city council approved a measure today regulating the ride-share industry.
Among the new rules, ride-share drivers are required to get chauffeur’s licenses. There will also be caps on “surge-pricing” during peak demand. Ride-share companies will be required to purchase one million dollars in commercial auto liability insurance.
Taxi companies argue the new rules don’t go far enough.
