Boy shot in Dolton: ‘I see it on the news. I never thought it be me’
Police in south suburban Dolton are searching for a gunman who shot three people Monday morning.
The victims, who range in age from 12 to 21, are all expected to survive and were unintended targets, according to police.
Police say the shooter opened fire while driving near 143rd Street and Woodlawn Ave.
The bullets stuck at least two garages and the victims. Police say the 21-year-old was hit in the thigh and hand. The 17-year-old was shot in the hand but the bullet traveled up to his stomach.
And 12-year-old Dejun Edwards was hit in the right arm as he rode his bike.
“All of all sudden we heard gun shots. We were trying to get the kids into safety,” Dejun’s grandmother Carolyn Scott said. “And as he was running, I noticed he got shot. Blood was gushing everywhere.”
Edwards family says he is in stable condition.
Police say the shooter who was in a gold colored Chrysler 300. The driver exchanged words with a yet to be identified man on a bike.
They left in opposite direction but a short time later, the car circled back and opened fire. Police think the shooter’s target escaped without injury.
Police continue to investigate.
