A man wanted for trying to sexually assault a 19-year-old woman after he followed her on the CTA’s Blue Line has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery.

Leverne Burnette, 21, turned himself in to police  Thursday night.  Police say Burnette was with his family when he walked into the police headquarters at 3510 S. Michigan Ave. at about 7:30pm Thursday and turned himself in.

Chicago Police issued a community alert  Tuesday after Burnette allegedly followed the woman after she  rode on the Blue Line from the Clark and Lake stop and exited near 900 W. Van Buren Street.

Investigators say Burnette tried to sexually assault the woman in the 900 block of West  Van Buren at about 12:18 a.m. Tuesday.

The woman was able to fend off the attacker and call police.

Surveillance cameras at the CTA station caught images of the man who was believed to be the attacker. His picture was broadcast by television stations.

Burnette is scheduled to appear in bond court today.
