Police: Boy, 14, fatally shot in Marquette Park was gang related

Chicago police say a shooting that killed a 14 year-old boy in the Marquette Park neighborhood was gang related, but people who knew Kevin Diaz are disputing that.

Diaz was shot three times in the chest at 64th and Francisco just after 10 p.m. Thursday. He was killed just blocks from his house. Someone called him 10 minutes before his death.

“He was 14 years-old. Little kid. He was still growing up. School. They live right here on the block where it’s a lot of gang affiliation, a lot of gang members around here. But, what can we do about it?,” said family friend Gerardo Vilencia.

Diaz was wrapping up his freshman year.

Police are still searching for the person or persons responsible for the shooting.

  • Help the police to help yourselves

People living in Chicago need to stop closing your blinds and pretending the violence isn’t there.

I know it easy easier said than done. when you see a crime or something that doesn’t look right going on. Call the police, tell them what you see an tell them you wish to remain anonymous.

Beleive it or not, the police will keep your secret about who you are. You have to call them and tell them whats going on. They cannot help if they do not know.
