Woman charged with murdering daughter, 3, held without bail
A woman accused of murdering her 3-year-old daughter is being held without bail.
Maria Espinoza-Perez, 24, is accused of killing Ashley Mendoza.
In court Wednesday, prosecutors alleged that Espinoza-Perez beat her daughter so badly that police found suspected blood spatter on the child’s teddy bear.
The girl was found dead at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at her home in the 3300 block of North Natchez Avenue.
Authorities say her body was covered with blood, and had injuries to her head and body.
Initially Espinoza-Perez told police that someone had broken into the house.
According to Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Mack, she later told police in videotaped statements that she made up the home invasions, cleaned up Ashley’s blood and caused some of her injuries.
