An innocent attempt to cool off on a hot day turned tragic Tuesday afternoon when two men died after being pulled from the water at 31st Street Beach.
The victims were 36 and 40 years old.
The men were found in about seven feet of water and more than 100 feet out.
Thanks to witnesses, rescuers got to the spot where they were last seen within minutes but it was still too late.
were immigrants from Morocco and had been in this country for about 10 years, friends say. Both were married, one leaves behind a 4-year-old son.
Authorities warn Chicago beaches aren’t open yet and there are no lifeguards on-duty until next week- and there’s no way even a strong swimmer can last long in that still-frigid water.
