Violent storms create flooding problems across Chicago area

Violent storms caused problems for our area for a second straight day.

Heavy downpours created major challenges to drivers in many areas Monday night.

In Lake County, police were forced to shut down Route 41 near Route 176 as standing water, at least two-feet deep, made the road impassable.

Drivers were stranded for hours as they looked for alternate ways to get around.

Local fire departments helped rescue several people who were stuck in their cars and even helped some people who got trapped in their homes by the rising water.

Some areas received more than an inch and a half of rain in about 30 minutes.

People in north suburban Glenview also experienced flash flooding.

One block of Glendale Road was submerged and residents say some of the water made it into their homes.

The water did subside just a bit.

One homeowner says the area has flooded before, but this is the worst she’s ever seen.

In Des Plaines, a busy stretch of Oakton Road was shut down after standing water made it impassable.

Several streets were under water throughout the evening, and residents reported water in their basements.

Police officers were on hand to safely reroute traffic.

No reports of any injuries.

The storm left behind major damage in southern Wisconsin as well.

In Racine County, several trees were uprooted crashing down on cars and even a swimming pool.

The heavy rains also caused some flash flooding.

Cook and Lake counties were under flood warnings until 12:30.

  • Keep the pain coming

Sure Glad The Deep Tunnel Works, NOT.
While Rahm & Pat Quinn get their campaign coffers filled, more an more suffering continues for the people of Illinois.
Day after day violence. Day after day tax, fuel and food prices continue going highrr while jobs and salaries disappear.
Now another heavy rain floods people out of their under valued homes. No relief for the working class. Everybody just keep donating to the Democratic party, I am sure they will help us out sometime in the next 100 years or later.
