NIU’s Lynch Signs with Bears as Undrafted Free Agent

The Chicago Bears finalized contracts with nine undrafted college free agents Sunday to fill out their 90-man roster after drafting eight players over the weekend.

They are:

RB Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois

OLB Christian Jones, Florida State

DT Brandon Dunn, Louisville

LB Tana Patrick, Alabama

DT Lee Pegues, East Carolina

LB DeDe Lattimore, South Florida

G James Dunbar, Texas Christian

OT Cody Booth, Temple

G Ryan Groy, Wisconsin

Lynch was a Heisman Trophy finalist as a quarterback last season, but Bears’ general manager Phil Emery was impressed by Lynch’s running ability. For more on how Lynch chose the Bears over the Packers, read our full story here.

Dunn has a preexisting relationship with new Bears assistant defensive line coach Clint Hurtt, who was Louisville’s defensive line coach for the last four seasons.

Patrick received a $750 bonus to sign a free-agent contract with the Bears, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Booth’s high school coach, Todd Mealy tweeted a picture of Booth writing on a stack of papers, one of which appears to picture a Bears helmet at the top. Booth played tight end for three seasons in college before switching to offensive line.

Several other players have been invited on a tryout basis to the Bears’ rookie camp on May 16-18. The Bears did not publicize that list of players.
