A Hampshire High School teacher is on administrative leave for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student.
The 23 year-old female teacher is accused of having the relationship with an 18 year-old male student.
Kane County officials obtained search warrants to check their smartphones. The warrants reportedly show the teacher performed sex acts on the student at least twice in 2013.
The school’s principal learned of the alleged relationship last month from a friend of the student. This person reportedly spotted the teacher in the student’s “Snapchat” feed.
School leaders sent a letter to parents and staff to tell them about the investigation, and not to rush to judgement.
In addition to sexual contact, the teacher is suspected of providing the student with answers to test questions.
The first year teacher hasn’t been charged, but a felony count with prison time is possible, because the teacher was in a position of trust and authority.
