A man is hospitalized this morning after he was Tased by Chicago Police officers overnight.
It happened just after 12 a.m. near North Avenue and Wells Street in the Old Town neighborhood.
Witnesses say the man shoplifted a bottle of vodka from the Walgreens at that intersection.
Police officers were nearby and chased him.
Police say the man resisted arrest and tried to run, so the officers used a Taser.
Witnesses say the man fell face-first into a light pole and collapsed.
He appeared to be unconscious.
Police say the unidentified man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Fire officials say he is in fair condition.
Police sources tell WGN the suspect was likely on the run due to an outstanding warrant for a parole violation. He was sentenced to two years for a previous theft conviction. Now he may face new charges of retail theft and resisting arrest.
