Bond is set at $750,000 for a man charged with reckless homicide and drunk driving in a wrong-way crash on Lake Shore Drive.

A University of Chicago law student was killed and three others injured.

The driver, Erik Johnson, 23, was among those hurt in the crash. Police say his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

Johnson’s father flew in from Long Island and apologized for the accident. “Horrible, tragic situation,” Bill Johnson, Erik’s father, said. “We’ve been praying since we heard about it and we’re going to continue praying.”

Laura LaPlante was set to graduate from the University of Chicago Law School this year. She planned to join a Boston law firm in the fall. Flags are flying at half-staff outside the law school in her memory.
