Today is Cinco de Mayo — possibly the worst time for a lime shortage

Limes are commonly used as garnishes in all sorts of Mexican drinks and dishes; but bad weather in Mexico, and the entry of the drug cartels into the lime business, have doubled and even tripled the price of limes in just the past year.

Some bars and restaurants are just passing along the extra cost; others are substituting lemons for limes.
