(Memphis) Locals and people from across the world said camping out for hours on end was all worth it to get a glimpse of Prince William and Prince Harry arriving at a friend’s wedding Saturday.
The royals came to Memphis to see their friend, London nightclub owner Guy Pelly wed native Memphian Lizzy Wilson.
Royal fans young and old camped outside the wedding at the Memphis Hunt and Polo Club, straining to see the royal guests. “I’m a big Prince Harry fan! I’m single! I heard he’s single…” royal fan Darla Chipman said with a smile.
Memphian Nicholas Pegues has been following the royal family extensively for the last three years. So, he was thrilled to hear Prince Harry, Prince William and other royals like Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice were coming. He said he even writes to the palace and occasionally gets responses. “I’m always a pen pal to the queen, and I wrote her about Princess Beatrice possibly coming to visit Victorian Village,” Pegues explained.
Pegues was just one of the dozens who lined the perimeter of the club Saturday.
Wedding guests arrived at the front entrance and a children’s choir could be heard singing at the ceremony.
WREG is told Prince William and Prince Harry were brought in a different way, avoiding the army of cameras awaiting their arrival.
Still, many fans still held out hope for a more public appearance like their arrival at Rendezvous Thursday. Chipman said she knows exactly what she would do if she bumped into the royals. “Pull out my iPhone and start snapping pictures, Instagram and Facebook!”
Others said just having them in Memphis a crowning achievement. “It was pretty awesome,” Pegues said of the visit. “… a once in a lifetime event!”
The Jimmy Church band is providing music for the reception, which is also being held at the Memphis Hunt and Polo Club.
There is no word on when the royals will head home.
