Police: Chicago shootings down, murders up in new crime report

Chicago police have released new crime numbers for the first four months of 2014.

Overall, police said crime was down 20%.

Compared to last 2013, shootings were also down 3%, and shooting victims down 1%.

Chicago police also recovered 1,900 illegal guns.

However, Chicago has had 2 more murders than it did this time last year.

The numbers come as one person was killed and ten others were hurt in shootings since Friday afternoon.

A man was fatally shot at the corner of 81st street and Cottage Grove Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Friday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one has been arrested in any of the shootings.

What an absolutely irresponsible report from the City of Chicago. "Shootings down murders up". All that means is the shooters are getting better. Is McCarthy tooting his horn that the city is safer now that shootings are down but more people are being killed? I don't get the warm and fuzzes.
