Former Illinois State Representative Keith Farnham appeared in federal court Wednesday to face child pornography charges.
The judge ordered he pay a $4,500 bond and remain on house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
Farnham also is barred from using the internet or having any contact with children under the age of 18.
The democrat from Elgin abruptly resigned in March, a week after federal agents seized his personal and office computers.
Investigators say they found hundreds of pornographic pictures and videos.
Farnham is accused of trading child porn images, and engaging in on-line chats in which he said he prefers sex with young children.
When he resigned his seat in March, Farnham said he was stepping down due to serious health concerns.
Defense attorney Terry Ekl said his client needs a lung transplant and is being treated for Hepatitis C.
Ekl says he is still reviewing the charges against his client.
