A father-son outing turned into the fishing trip of a lifetime for three boys in Florida.
They managed to catch a nearly 700-pound Mako Shark.
The three boys and their dads were visiting Sarasota from Ohio when they went fishing on Wednesday.
“What we said to the boys is you have a choice, you can either man the amberjack rod or you can man the shark rod. And they said, ‘We want the shark”, Mark Van Duhn said.
The group was about 20 miles out in 100 feet water, when something bit their 15-pound Amberjack bait.
“Everyone started screaming and yelling, ‘Yay!” said 12-year-old Sam Van Duhn. “We got a shark!’”
Te boys were able to tow the female Mako Shark back to shore.
She ended up weighing in at 692 pounds.
Marine researchers hope to study the shark to figure out what makes it so fast..
