New Chicago high school to be named for Obama

A new selective enrollment high school named after President Barack Obama will be built near the former site of the Cabrini-Green public housing complex, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Thursday.

Barack Obama College Preparatory High School will be built near the intersection of Division and Halsted streets.

It will open in the fall of 2017 with an inaugural freshman class of nearly 300 students, and will add subsequent grade levels each year following, according to a news release.

The school will ultimately enroll 1,200 students.

The school project will be funded through approximately $60 million in TIF funds.

Fo the broke State of Illinois and the broke City of Chicago – There's always enough money for:
Obama Presidential Library – 100 Million
Obama College Prep High School- 60 Million
Maggie Daley Park – ?? million

Where do the TIF Funds come from? the tax payer!

  • no common sense

The news reports this morning, the mayor is closing 3 under performing schools and firing all the teachers at those schools.
The news states also the city says that those schools will be in the Pritzker’s uhh I mean in private hands for reconditioning into money making I mean better serving schools using taxpayers money all the way to fund them into a non goverment private institutions hands.
Then Chicago gets on the news this afternoon and says we are building a new high school which is only 1 mile from one of top high schools in the state.
How strange, didn’t the city close a whole bunch of schools less than a year ago under one of the pretexts that those schools had other schools just as close, that they where old and not performing either? Something smells and it smells like money to me.
