Skilling: Wild weather week shaping up
Fascinating pattern coming together with a number of varied impacts on Chicago and the nation’s mid-section over the coming week–not all of them good.
Warming the next two days is to fade dramatically as winds shift in off the lake over the weekend. Then two huge weather systems take over dominance of the Midwest weather scene from Sunday well into next week–a sprawling Canadian high pressure expected to plant its 1053mb center over Hudson Bay and Baffin Island in Canada while extending its windy southern flank into the Midwest where it is to do battle with a deep, richly moisture-endowed storm system caught up in quite an omega blocking pattern aloft and, therefore, a SLOW-MOVER.
This atmospheric combo–the “mega”-high and deep low pressure to the south— threatens to produce spells of prolific, at times thundery rainfall & downpours here while awakening a potentially significant severe weather threat on multiple occasions from the Plains into areas downstate Illinois and Indiana south into the Deep South.
