Shark tracker teaches students about conservation

It’s a subject Chicago area students will rarely get firsthand knowledge of but it is one Chris Fischer is determined to spread across the world.

Chris is the founder and expedition leader at Ocearch – a nonprofit organization which tags and researches great white sharks across the world.

To date, Chris has led 20 expeditions tagging and studying the habits of great whites and tried to ensure their future and the future of our oceans. Today he taught his efforts to 7th grade students from Kinzie elementary school at the Brookfield Zoo.
The shark research is just the beginning. Chris and his team have turned their discoveries into stem curriculum for students. Their global shark tracker give real time information on the mammals scientists are studying so they too can help make a difference.
