Today is Earth Day!
As part of the celebration, Mayor Emanuel will announce that the program to make residential units more energy efficient is ahead of schedule.
The upgrades include energy efficient lighting or installing air sealing and insulation.
The mayor says this will help residents save $3.8 million in energy costs each year.
The first Earth Day was in 1970.
It was created in the U.S. to increase public awareness of environmental problems.
It’s celebrated every year by more than a billion people in 180 countries.
