A day after Bulls center Joakim Noah won the NBA’s top defensive honor, Tom Thibodeau finished third Tuesday in voting for 2013-14 Coach of Year, which was won for the third time by the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich.
Thibodeau, who won the honor for the 2010-11 season, received 12 first-place votes and 159 points from a panel of 124 North American sportswriters and broadcasters. Popovich won with 159 first-place votes and 380 points, and first-year Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek — who starred at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange — placed second with 37 first-place votes and 339 points.
Popovicih guided the Spurs to the league’s best record (62-20) in winning the honor for the second time in three years. He only won the award for the 2002-03 season.
