3 dead, 4 others injured in shooting incidents

A 43-year-old man was one of three people fatally shot Saturday.

The life of Darren Ray was mourned by his family Saturday afternoon.

His sister, other family members and friends say ray was known as a “peace keeper” in the neighborhood. They don’t know why someone would want to gun down the father, who leaves behind five children between the ages of two and 17.

Chicago police say Ray’s body was found with multiple gunshot wounds in this alley on the 2900 block of west Flournoy at 9:30 Saturday morning. It’s just a few blocks from his home here in the north Lawndale neighborhood.

About an hour later, two males were found dead of apparent gunshot wounds in a home in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said.

The body of 16-year-old Jordan Means and another teen were found in a basement apartment near 82nd and Houston.

Family and friends lined the block pouring out their emotions while police investigated.

Means’ older sister says police told the family the gunman kicked the door open and shot the teens multiple times. Family members say the teen was always in good spirits and always out with friends.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the back and a 21-year old man was shot in the leg after an argument turned violent near 66th and Maryland in the Woodlawn neighborhood at around 1:00 Saturday afternoon.

Police say the victims were walking down the street and had words with a group of people before the shots were fired.

In other shootings:

At 2:40 p.m. a 21-year-old man was shot in the abdomen on the 6900 block of South Halsted Street in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. The man was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Area South detectives are investigating.

At about 11:35 a.m. a 46-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in the Edgewater neighborhood, police said. The man was sitting in a vehicle on the 1700 block of West Rosehill Drive when someone went up to him and shot him in the stomach, police said. The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition, police said. Area North police were investigating.
