Illinois lawmakers to discuss money for Obama library
Lawmakers want to use $100 million in state construction funds to help bring President Barack Obama’s future presidential library and museum to Illinois.
The proposal is the focus of a legislative hearing today.
House Speaker Michael Madigan said it’s important to make a strong financial commitment to honor President Obama’s legacy.
At least six sites – mostly on Chicago’s south side – want to be the home of the library and museum.
Officials in Hawaii and New York also expressed interest in hosting the museum.
