A Palatine man has been charged with the murder of an Illinois teenager found in Wisconsin more than 17-years ago.
James Eaton, 36, is currently in custody in Racine County on $1 million bond.
He’s charged in the murder of 14-year-old Amber Creek in 1997.
Investigators say they first identified Eaton from a fingerprint left on a bag that was found wrapped around the girl’s head.
Eaton has also been linked to the crime through DNA evidence. The teenager had been beaten, sexually assaulted and suffocated.
Police say Eaton was not previously a suspect in the case and they did not release a motive or say whether the two knew each other previously.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
Amber was a ward of the state of Illinois and ran away from a juvenile facility in Chicago two weeks before her death.
Her family is asking for time to process the news.
