According to WXIN, Edgewood Police Officer James Foutch was driving a GMC Yukon WB on SR 32 in Madison County Sunday when he rear-ended a Buick Century. The force of the impact pushed the Buick Century off the north side of the roadway and into a utility pole.

Rebecca Marie Sperry, the pregnant driver of the Buick, was transported by Stat Flight Medical Helicopter with severe injuries to St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis. Her husband, Jesse, the passenger in the Buick, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman gave birth to a baby girl several hours after the accident, according to family members on a YouCaring page.

Foutch was later arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, and now he’s out on $20,000 bond.

Police are still investigating the accident.
