Yogi Berra famously said, or at least is supposed to have said “It’s deja vu all over again.” You can’t blame Cub followers if that was their sentiment 5 games into the ’14 season. Looks a lot like ’13 doesn’t it. The Cubs have scored a measly 8 runs in 5 games are hitting just .216 and a major league worst .100 with runners in scoring position. 4 hits in 40 tries in those situations. The good news, as it was early last year is that the starting pitching has been very good. The rotation has posted a 1.95 ERA through the first 5 ball games. That trails only the Braves in the NL.
I like the positive energy Rick Renteria brings to the ballpark every day. His challenge will be to maintain that throughout the long grind of the 162 game season while his hitters try to find some answers at the plate. Here’s hoping they can turn “positivity” into runs.
