Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old Simeon Athlete who was shot in the head last night.
16-year-old Michael Flournoy was shot at 93rd and Dobson.
Flournoy’s death is a tragic loss for Simeon career academy where he played football and wrestled.
His wrestling coach says the Simeon family lost a good one.
“He’s just a good kid,” said Carnell Jones. “He worked really hard, was focused on doing better and doing well and he always talked about his grades and let me know what was going on.”
Throughout the day today, family members and friends came to the scene of the shooting to pay their respects.
Sadly, the family has seen tragedy here before. In 2009, Flournoy’s cousin was shot to death at this very same corner.
Flournoy’s grandmother says the violence has to come to an end.
“I can’t explain the hurt. These murders have got to stop,” said Sabrina Butler. “We cannot take anymore of this. Parents you need to all grab your children and become parents again.”
