UIC student attacked in shower; Suspect caught

Officials at UIC are praising a group of students who helped catch a man suspected of sexually assaulting a student in a shower at her dorm.

The attack happened around 10 a.m. Monday in the “Commons South” dorm, in the 700 block of South Halsted.

Several students who heard the commotion called UIC police, and then sprang into action.

They rushed the victim to another floor, and held her attacker until officers arrived.

UIC says the man is not affiliated with the school.

The woman received medical attention.

The man was arrested and remains in police custody.

UIC police are now trying to figure out how he got into the dorm.
