How to Build a Rustic Tabletop

Sometimes the best DIY projects are when you get to build something out of nothing! That’s what this project is all about. Casey Burkitt from the Rebuilding Exchange shows Ryan how to make a rustic tabletop out of reclaimed scrap wood.


  • Metal base
  • Scrap wood
  • Chop saw
  • Metal detector
  • 1 1/4 inch screws
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Palm sander
  • Poly whey coating
  • Paint brush


  1. Check wood for metal
  2. Measure wood
  3. Cut wood
  4. Space out tabletop
  5. Cut braces at an angle
  6. Drill pilot holes
  7. Screw on braces
  8. Sand wood
  9. Brush on poly whey coating
  10. Center base and attach
