Jefferson Park speed cameras to start issuing tickets

More speed cameras will start issuing tickets Sunday, instead of just warnings.

Officials say cameras near Jefferson park, in the 5400 block of West Higgins, are now issuing tickets.

Fines for violations are $35 for vehicles traveling 6-10 mph over the posted speed limit while in a safety zone, and $100 for vehicles traveling 11 or more mph over the posted speed limit.

The city will start enforcement by issuing tickets for drivers going 10 or more mph over the posted speed limit. That threshold will gradually be lowered. officials said.

New cameras near Francis Xavier Warde school, Schaefer Park and Portage Park will also start issuing warnings over the next several days.
