If you haven’t signed up for insurance under the new health care law, you better do it soon.
The deadline is Monday, March 31st. The next enrollment period won’t open until November.
The Erie Family Medical Center at Superior and Paulina is busy enrolling people at the facility on Friday, as well as at 11 other locations. It will also hold fairs on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Erie has been around for 60 years. It serves lower and middle class patients primarily.
Erie says people need insurance for regular checkups and preventative maintenance, instead of reactionary visits to emergency rooms.
“Especially being a community health center, we see many patients who have gone without insurance for many, many years, sometimes their entire life, and we’ve seen the negative impacts that that can have,” said Iliana Mora, of Erie Family Medical Center.
Those who don’t have insurance and don’t enroll will face fines from the IRS.
