Elvira Arellano became known as an immigration reform activist in 2006.

That’s when the Mexican native was convicted of using a fake social security number.

To avoid deportation, she and her son stayed at Adalberto United Methodist Church for close to a year.

She was eventually deported when she went to California.

Arellano crossed the border illegally again, with dozens of other people.

She has a hearing in September, but she’ll be allowed to stay at Adalberto again.

Her son is 15 and a U.S. citizen.

But Arellano now has a five month old baby.

“For me, this is my house,” Arellano said.  “I consider it my home.”

“The fight doesn’t stop when a mother is separated from her son.  The fight stops when we don’t want to be part of it.”
