Funeral services held for Oak Forest police officer killed in crash

Hundreds turned out for an Oak Forest police officer’s funeral this weekend.

62-year-old James Morrissy, 34-year veteran of the department, died from injuries he suffered in a car crash.

Morrissy was on-duty and on his way to assist another officer Monday. That’s when his squad car was struck on the driver’s side at the intersection of Cicero Avenue and 160th Street.

According to police his lights and siren were not on at the time, and the driver of the other vehicle is not likely to face charges.

He was pronounced dead Monday night at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Morrissy served 35 years, making him the longest-serving patrol officer in Oak Forest. He’s also the first from the department to die in the line of duty.

Morrissy is survived by his wife and three sons.

At least it looks like the officer was at fault. Even though I'm sorry for the officer's family. If this happened in Southern California, the police agenc(ies) would find a way to pin it on the other driver even though the officer might have been at fault. That's how they roll.
