Blasting which was scheduled to resume Monday at a quarry in McCook, has been canceled for the day.
Company officials tell WGN they were forced to cancel the blast after a hydraulic drill broke.
They did not say when it would be rescheduled.
Blasting at the quarry in the Southwest suburb was suspended last November after an earthquake.
Officials from the U.S. Geological Survey believe the 3.2 magnitude quake might have been caused by blasts at the quarry. But equipment at the site wasn’t sensitive enough to say for sure.
New equipment is being installed and officials will monitor future blasts and seismic activity around the site.
