Star basketball player among those shot at house party
Six people were wounded early Sunday morning when a gunman opened fire during a party in a home in the Austin neighborhood.
The problem police say started after 3 a.m. Sunday when some people at the house party exchanged words and shoves. It turned violent when one of the people involved left the party and returned with a gun. The gunman open fired hitting six people including 19-year-old Orr High School basketball player Tyquone Greer. He was shot in the leg.
Greer made an ESPN list of the top ten high school recruits in Illinois and helped lead his team to 23-3 record.
Louis Adams, Greer’s coach, says one of his former players was also hurt. That man was shot multiple times and is at Mt Sini Hospital.
Greer has since been released from the hospital.
The four others shot include three men and a woman and range in age from late teens to early 20s. All are expected to survive.
