A transgender woman prohibited from competing in a strength competition is suing the sponsor for discrimination.
Personal trainer Chloie Johnson tried to compete in “The CrossFit Games” for the title of “Fittest Woman.”
However, organizers informed Johnson that competitors have to compete in the gender of their birth, after receiving an anonymous email about her.
Johnson underwent sexual reassignment surgery in 2006 and has received female hormone therapy.
She filed a lawsuit in Santa Cruz, California Thursday.
Johnson is suing CrossFit for discrimination, intentional infliction of emotional distress and unfair competition and is seeking $2.5 million in damages.
CrossFit has not commented on the lawsuit.
