Our frigid end to February should insure this meteorological winter (December through February) ranks as the third coldest on record.

The only two winter that have been colder were the winters of 1903-1904 and 1978-1979.

Meteorological spring (March-May) is going to get off to a rather cold start too.  The warmest day in our 7-day forecast is next Wednesday with a high of 24° but even that is more than 15° below average.  Beyond that the outlook remains chilly.  The 8 to 14 day forecast from the Climate Prediction Center has the Midwest outlooked for overall below average temperatures through nearly the middle of the month.
