Armed man surrenders to police after Lockport standoff

An armed man who barricaded himself in his southwest suburban home surrendered to police, ending a five-hour standoff.

The barricade happened on the 100 block of North Jefferson on Lockport early Thursday morning.

lockportbarricadesituationPolice said the incident started as a domestic dispute between the man and his wife in the home they were renting.

They said man came out of the house around 4:30 a.m, and fired shots at surrounding homes.

One neighbor said a bullet hit his home.

Police and SWAT teams moved in and were able to coax the man out of the house just before 9:30 a.m.

He is in police custody.

Two nearby schools were put on alert, but there was no threat to the schools or the students.
