Brookfield Zoo seeks public’s help in naming baby gorilla

Brookfield Zoo recently welcomed a new baby gorilla.

She was born November 4th last year and she still needs a name!

The names are down to a final list:

  • Alima—which is a river in the Republic of Congo, where western lowland gorillas are native
  • Amelia—which means “industrious leader” or “flatterer”
  • Emma—named after Emma Stokes, a gorilla researcher who “discovered” a large population of western lowland gorillas in the Republic of Congo
  • Nora—which means “light” or “honor”

The voting ends March 3.

Starting Tuesday, you can go to BrookfieldZoo.org/gorillaname to place your vote.

On Tuesday, March 4, WGN’s Marcus Leshock will be revealing the name on the WGN Morning News.
