Brookfield Zoo seeks public’s help in naming baby gorilla

Brookfield Zoo recently welcomed a new baby gorilla.

She was born November 4th last year and she still needs a name!

The names are down to a final list:

  • Alima—which is a river in the Republic of Congo, where western lowland gorillas are native
  • Amelia—which means “industrious leader” or “flatterer”
  • Emma—named after Emma Stokes, a gorilla researcher who “discovered” a large population of western lowland gorillas in the Republic of Congo
  • Nora—which means “light” or “honor”

The voting ends March 3.

Starting Tuesday, you can go to to place your vote.

On Tuesday, March 4, WGN’s Marcus Leshock will be revealing the name on the WGN Morning News.
