Two victims were injured in a shooting near Thornridge High School Tuesday night and ran to the school seeking help following the attack, police said.
The shooting took place a little before 7 p.m. on 152nd Street near Champlain Avenue in Dolton, police said in a news conference.
Two patients, a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were taken to Franciscan St. Margaret hospital in Hammond from the shooting.
The boy was transferred to Christ Advocate Medical Center one in critical condition, emergency officials said.
A group of five men was walking in the area when a black mini-van pulled up and someone got out and exchanged words with those in the group, then started firing at them.
The gunman fired about five or six shots, and the group scattered, police said. The two victims ran to Thornridge High School, 15000 Cottage Grove, which was hosting a basketball game against Thornwood High School at the time, authorities said.
No one involved in the shooting was at the game.
Police are seeking the public’s help with any information regarding the black SUV or mini-van involved in this shooting.
