Chicago cops made over $100 million in overtime last year
Chicago Police Officers took home more than $100 million in overtime last year.
Some of the officers collected an additional $78,000– which happens to be more than their regular salaries.
Aldermen are concerned about it, not about the dollar amount, but that officers could burn out working the extra hours.
The mayor says it’s cheaper to pay overtime than add officers to the payroll.
Superintendent Garry McCarthy made those comments Friday at police recruit graduation– saying they’ve added 220 officers since December 2011.
