Mayor Emanuel defends new charter schools

Mayor Emanuel is defending the Chicago Board of Education’s decision to approve seven new charter schools, despite closing dozens of neighborhood schools last year.

In his first public comments since the vote last week, Mayor Emanuel said the schools that were closed had too few students.

He says the charter schools are opening in areas where there are not enough classrooms.
